Breast Asymmetry

Breast Asymmetry

Like all paired organs, there is no mirror symmetry between the two breasts. Moderate symmetries can cause aesthetic discomfort and can be corrected with surgical or injection methods. Severe asymmetries are known in the literature as Amazon syndrome and have significant psychological effects.

According to scientific studies (most recently in the December 2014 issue of the American Journal of Plastic Surgery), breast asymmetry has been shown to cause significant psychological problems in adolescent girls. Lack of self-confidence, social communication problems, mood disorders, and eating disorders are among other issues. These problems are quite pronounced when the difference between the two breasts is at least one bra size. In such cases, the smaller breast being tubular is another common issue.

In significant breast asymmetry, breast aesthetics are directly related to mental health beyond being just an aesthetic problem. While treatment is in the form of psychological support until the end of the growth period, aesthetic intervention seems necessary at the end of the growth period.

Breast asymmetry can appear in many different forms. One breast normal-the other small, one breast normal-the other large, one breast normal-the other sagging, one breast large-the other small, one breast large-the other sagging, one breast large-the other much larger, one breast sagging-the other very sagging, etc. There are even very severe asymmetries where one breast is absent (Poland syndrome). Treatment varies according to the type of asymmetry. Suitable methods from breast prosthesis, breast lifting-uplifting, reduction, and stem cell-rich fat cell injection are used. Especially in cases where asymmetry is detected early, results can be achieved with vacuum devices.
