Chin aesthetics
In chin aesthetics, procedures such as chin augmentation, chin reduction, witch chin aesthetics, and chin shaping are included.
Materials in chin augmentation procedure
In chin augmentation procedures, biological or synthetic materials are available as options. When biological material is mentioned, tissues such as bone or cartilage taken from the person themselves come to mind first. Besides that, there are materials from cadavers or other living sources. Another group of options is synthetic materials. In this group, silicone, Gore-tex, and Medpor are included.
Silicone is a material that can be easily accepted by the human body and is trapped in a capsule woven by the body where it is placed. When placed in the right place and in the right way, it offers a safe and quick procedure. This moldable material also has a slight risk of slipping.
Gore-tex has the advantage of being easily moldable, along with its compatibility with the body, the natural feel it provides, and its micro-porous structure that allows it to become part of the tissues.
While Medpor stands out as a true skeletal implant, it integrates with the body with its porous structure. Within a year, ossification occurs for the material, and the risk of movement disappears. However, due to its rough and hard structure, a larger incision is required for placement.
The importance of chin augmentation
It is a very critical procedure in terms of balance between the mid and upper face and the lower face. It eliminates the convex appearance in the lower face, resulting in a more aesthetic outcome. The neck and face angle become more pronounced, while the facial oval is also clarified. It greatly enhances profile aesthetics.
How the procedure is done
The procedure is done without an incision scar from inside the mouth or with an incision from under the chin. It is possible to perform the procedure from under the chin with local anesthesia. It is a day procedure, and the duration of the procedure varies between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours.
Lower chin tip augmentation procedure (mentoplasty) and golden ratios
The lower chin tip significantly changes the proportions and golden ratios of the face both in profile and frontal view. Therefore, lower chin tip augmentation is a procedure with a high positive aesthetic reflection.
Chin sagging (witch chin deformity)
Especially in advanced ages, and sometimes structurally at early ages, the soft tissue of the chin tip sags downward from the jawbone. This issue becomes more pronounced especially during smiling. Chin sagging is also known as witch chin deformity.
Jawbone resorption and dental problems can trigger the emergence of the problem. The solution to the problem is to restore the sagging tissue to its original place or to remove the excess tissue by entering from under the chin. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia. Recovery and return to social life are quick.
Especially as part of central facial rejuvenation and profile aesthetics, correcting chin sagging (witch chin deformity) is important.
Golf ball chin deformity
Golf ball chin deformity or orange peel chin issue is generally a problem of advanced age, but it can sometimes start at early ages. This condition, especially due to the excessive activity of the chin tip muscle, deteriorates the skin of the chin tip over time. Weakening the movement of the muscle that excessively moves the chin tip is the most important treatment method. It is possible to do this with Botox. In individuals with this issue, chin tip bone weaknesses usually accompany. If such a problem exists, an implant or filler that strengthens the chin tip bone should be added to the treatment.
Once this issue is established, its complete treatment is very difficult. Therefore, early intervention is important before the chin tip skin deteriorates.
Chin corner aesthetics (masseter hypertrophy)
In individuals who especially have complaints of teeth grinding and clenching at night, the muscles attached to the jaw corners grow. In this case, there are swellings in the jaw corners that disrupt the facial oval. The width of the lower face expands and gives a stern expression to the face. With the pulling of the muscles, the corners of the jawbone also grow. Botox is a quick and practical way to treat this issue. With 2-3 applications per year, the corners of the jawbone soften, and the ideal facial oval is regained. Meanwhile, night teeth grinding and pains will also improve.
